If you have seen the movie Pan’s Labyrinth before this, it won’t surprise you to know that Guillermo del Toro directed both of them (in addition to the first Hellboy). Because of his directing, The Golden Army’s visuals are done quite extremely well, and the movie as a whole lives up to Dark Horse’s Hellboy comics and does them justice. The visuals are better than that of the first Hellboy (also a good movie), and Ron Perlman’s reprisal of Hellboy is fantastic. As the antagonist, it’s eerie how amazingly alike Luke Goss looks in this movie as he did in Blade II. He uses the close to the same type of color and style makeup and looks almost exactly as he did before. The DVD was released in early November and is a must see for comic book-movie genre fans. That being said, as visually appealing as this movie is, if you did not like the first Hellboy, you won’t like the sequel.
